Goaltending School: Day 1

Tonight we attended the opening session of the David Marcoux School of Goaltending. Mr. Marcoux is the current goaltending coach of the Calgary Flames, including Mikka Kiprusoff (the 2005-2006 Vezina Trophy Winner). He runs camps for minor hockey players of all ages and A was enrolled this year.

Very impressive. We like what we see. Well organized, structured, well-qualified and experienced instructors, reputable sponsors, well-priced. Calgary Flames goaltending prospects are going to be on the ice, helping coach the participants, along with one of the associate trainers from the Flames. The preparatory exercises were prepared by the Flames stength and conditioning coach.

The keynote speaker tonight was Kelly Hrudey, a former NHL goaltender and current commentator on Hockey Night in Canada. He shared his story of becoming a goaltender and gave excellent advice to the camp participants. If you have a goaltender, this is the one camp I'd recommend.
