Life and Times

I attended three memorial services in two days. Two of them were for men who both died of a massive heart attack and left widows my age. The third memorial was for the mother of one of the widows who died of a stroke.  Imagine - losing your husband and mother within one day of each other.  As I went to bed last night, I commented on facebook that I had no tears left.

Tonight I read my poetry at an open reading, listened to other poets and totally enjoyed hearing personal essays and short stories from a number of other writers.  After class, I drove around aimlessly with my very good friend (and poetry teacher), Sue, looking at the cityscape, mountains, river, sunset and beautiful homes & gardens, chatting. Sue was in a very entertaining mood and began talking in a British accent, quoting Monty Python and making me laugh until I cried. If I had been in busy traffic, I would have crashed on two occasions - not being able to see for the hysterical tears in my eyes.

And so I re-quote the (slighty revised) quote from Monday's post:
The woman who radiates good cheer, who makes life happier wherever she meets it, is always a woman of vision and faith.
~ Ella Wheeler Wilcox
Thank God for friends.

Thank you, Sue, for your vision, faith and unconditional friendship.
