Cattle Prods and other Porcupines

Moo.

I was on a shore excursion today. A bus tour.

Moo.

NCL owns Polynesian Island Tours. Luxury coaches.

Moo.

They transported us around Hilo like cattle transports. It was the rainy side of Hilo. The rainforest side.

Moo.

Until you get to the volcano. Then it’s a desert moonscape with steam vents and 2-mile wide craters. And lots of cattle -- oops – people.

Moo.

Our driver talked continuously for 7 hours. The only story I didn’t hear was about her cat. I think she doesn’t have one. The only thing she didn’t talk about was what time to be back on the bus at each stop.

There isn’t 7 hours worth of shore excursion on Hilo. A quiet, sleepy, wet town.

I would have loved to hike. Through the rainforest. Through a longer lava tube. Across the crater.

But I was on a bus tour. Someone made us wait up to 20 minutes at EVERY stop. The six-hour plane ride was more fun.

Moo.

Tomorrow is Mau. Or is it Mooi?
