Gifts in losing something, finding something, making something

Twice in my life I have lost a significant amount of weight. It found me again. 131. The gift in that was that I found I cannot live thinking about food all the time. 132. I lost friends who only admired me for my body shape and 133. found friends who love and respect me as I am and care enough to encourage me toward healthy choices. 134. I stopped worrying about what people think and started being myself. 135. I found hiking difficult. 136. I lost my distaste for exercise. 137. I'm making myself walk stairs instead of taking the elevator and escalator. 138. I'm making plans to hike in the spring. 139. I'm making strides toward fitness for the sake of my health. 140. I found that how I care for my body is one more way I can honour God.
Don't you realize that your body is a sacred place, the place of the Holy Spirit? Don't you see that you can't live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical part of you is not some piece of property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let people see God in and through your body. 1 Cor. 6:19-20 The MSG

  1. Thank you for this post. I've been working since July to improve my health through weight loss and exercise. I am on a quest to make my body into the temple God intended. With His grace, I will reach my goal(s) and be able to maintain the temple.
